Are you strong enough to surrender? Some tips…

In my previous post, I talked about the strength you need to surrender. The strength you need to meet your own darkness. The strength you need to abandon your old self and rise to the new version of you. I would like to share with you some tips that I am gathering along the way…

IMG_2430Now, to be clear, I have just started down that road… or up that road should I say… I consider myself in no way a master of surrender… I am more… a padawan… learning to become a master… I have not become a saint overnight and truth is I don’t want to… I think our views of sainthood are very much misled. We view saints as people who are perfect, never get angry or sad or afraid…  Really?? Seriously now?? Throughout the ages leaders of various religions have put in front of us models that just seem unreachable… They have erased from writings and all their preaching any ounce of humanity that existed in saints, prophets and ascended masters to raise them to godlike level… In others words a state that none of us sinners can ever aspire to. Why? To keep us in the illusion of our sinful state, to make us want, no, need a solution that is outside of us and preferably through them…

And all this was done to keep us locked in fear and need instead of being hooked on love and freedom…

Let me assure you that saints, prophets and ascended masters were incarnated in a human body, like you and me, and as such felt all the ranges of human emotions. Granted some of them were born with a level of enlightenment most of us would hardly reach at the end of our lives. But they knew pain, they knew sadness, they knew doubt, they knew anger. They did. But they learnt how to channel them and rise above them… Not to some sort of ‘perfection’ for whatever that means but to a state of harmony with themselves and the world around them and most importantly to an unbreakable connection with the universe, its flow and its incredible magic.

Now, let us all agree that our aim is not to become saints but to become our most powerful self, driven every day towards happiness, not ‘success’, or ‘perfection’ and that the road to that is to surrender…

Tip N.1: Refuse the rat race

In all honesty I don’t think you can reach a sustainable stage of surrendering if you are still caught into the rat race… By definition, the pressures, worries and problems of everyday life, the deadlines, stress and unnecessary performance benchmarks of most jobs work as interferences against the flow of surrendering. You need to be somehow free from it. It does not mean you quit all work and you live off the land. But it does mean being relatively free of pre-established schedules.

Surrendering is an incredible, powerful, harmonious wave that includes a pre-requisite. It is called freedom. Freedom of mind, freedom of body, freedom of soul and freedom of time… at least partial.

It is only through that freedom that you can surrender to that wave that is so much greater than you and yet that is so much in you. You need to be free to follow that wave wherever it is taking you. You need to be able to pause and reflect or on the contrary jump and follow a hunch…

Tip N.2: Keep your feet on the ground…

When you start letting yourself being carried by the ever so powerful universe, learning to listen to its subtle language, recognising synchronicities, or, in other words, meaningful coincidences that start appearing in your life to lead you towards a certain path, truth is you want to fly… You realise we are caught in an illusion and all that you want is to be hooked to that other reality.

A reality that is ever so light compared to the density we are stuck in, a reality that is freeing and not alienating, a reality where you can be thousands of different versions of you not just one.

It is a very powerful feeling and it is intoxicating. But if you fly with no feet on the ground, chances are you will crash. Believe me… I’ve been there…

Like an antenna you need to be set firmly on the ground while you pick up the vibes that come from up there…

It means having a structure to your life, not the kind that doesn’t leave you with a minute to yourself, but the one that keeps you active, alert and not just waiting for stuff to happen. It means having an activity, a hobby or a job that inspire you. It means keeping your body strong and healthy while your mind learns to let go of all its pre-conditioning.

Tip N.3: Be patient with yourself

Yes I know, it’s never been my forte personally but hey… Truth is, you don’t wake up one morning and go “Aha! I am going to be fully anchored in this world, while aligning with my higher self, tune into the divine super consciousness and surrender!!!!”

It’s a process. It takes time. Some days you are sooo in it, and you surf on that incredible wave and some other days, you are tired, you are not so sure any more, you wonder what was so bad in the life you used to be living… Those days you crave the comfort of what is known and that is ok…

Be patient, be kind to yourself and remember there are no failures down that path…

Tip N.4: Trust what is sent your way

I sometimes say that I was not accompanied during all my spiritual awakenings. It is true and false at the same time.  Granted, I did not have a guru or physical master or parent that was a shaman or whatever… However, because I wanted it, because somehow I knew there was so much more to life than what we are brought to believe I met people along the way. I read thousands of books and articles. I had dreams. I had intuitions. I drew cards. I got guided towards articles of astrology, numerology, spirituality, name it.

I will tell you something though… I don’t believe you necessarily need to go through all the epiphanies and the pain that I went through. You don’t necessarily need to start drawing cards, read weekly astrology forecasts and chant om all day long… I believe we all have different ways of reaching the truth that are very unique to each of us, our personal story and our spiritual purpose in this lifetime.

There is only one truth but there are many ways to reach that truth. However, whatever the way, you need to be in a state of receptiveness that the rat race doesn’t allow you to be in.

Tip N.5: Listen to your heart

Yes I know, it sounds so very hippy new age and yet… Your heart is connected with your soul that is all knowing and as such your heart knows… So when I say trust what is sent your way I mean evaluate it with your heart.

Quiet your mind that tends to looks at things based on past experiences. Resist the urge that has your mind to judge, reject and most importantly be afraid.

There is nothing to be afraid of… There are just feelings that your heart receives that will take you safely through that journey. If your heart, and not your mind, resists an idea or a person, then change the direction. If your heart says, come on, it is not what you think… trust it…

Your mind is not useless though… But your mind needs to come after your heart made a judgement call… Your mind will then help you make sense and structure what you are receiving. It will help you put in ‘normal’ words what you are feeling… It will help you integrate in a ‘normal’ life what you are experiencing.

Tip N.6: Why so serious??

Surrendering is not a path to sainthood so you know what? Ditch the seriousness, the attempt at perfection and all that bullshit. Learn to have fun. Re-learn how to play. Re-acquaint yourself with the feeling of pleasure.

Surrendering takes you on a path of enjoyment, not seriousness…

I received a channelling years ago that said something like “play, have fun, enlightenment was never meant to be a chore or a duty you have to fulfill”… Did I ever mention that the Powers that Be have a wonderful sense of humour? Well they do. When you start reading the signs they send your way which is by the way not necessarily a flaming bush (no disrespect to flaming bushes) or mega ray of light that comes down on you with a resonating ‘Ommmmmmm’ with angels singing or whatever it is you imagine… No, when they start sending you signs which can be a song that answers perfectly the question you were asking yourself (and thus asking them) or a quote in a movie or a book that suddenly ‘appears’ out of the shelves or a repetition of numbers… Believe me you will start laughing out loud… You will be sending a lot of lols their way… Because all this was never meant to be serious, painful and dramatic… It is the stage before that can be painful, when you start waking up and you wonder what the hell is going with on you…

But ultimately the pain, the obsessive thoughts, the drama just fade away and all that is left is pleasure, enjoyment, lightness and fun.

Tip N.7: Don’t mistake the darkness before dawn for failure

Have you ever read the wonderful book by Paulo Cuelho ‘The Alchemist’? Please do… I don’t know how many times I read it and I am re-reading it now…

It is an incredible philosophical tale that contains all the wisdom you will ever need… It is the story of a shepherd in search of a ‘treasure’, his Personal Legend… It states that when you are on the journey towards your Personal Legend you always start with ‘beginner’s luck’ to encourage you down that path… But as you reach the final hurdle the Universe sends a bunch of tests your way and this is when most people give up. The reason why it is like this is not because the Universe has a cruel sense of humour it is there so that, on top of finding your ‘treasure’, your Personal Legend, you also fully assimilate all that you have learned along the way…

So if you feel you have done everything ‘right’ and have fully surrendered to the Universe and yet there are still so many things that seem to be going against you, don’t give up. Hold on to everything you believe in, remember everything you have learnt, all the inside demons you have slain and shine bright regardless…

Should I finish with an Ommmmmmmm now???
